Easy Lamb Recipe | Cinnamon-Scented Lamb Patties
This easy lamb recipe combines cinnamon and cumin with ground lamb for a super simple and super delicious dish that is perfect for any meal.
Cinnamon: History and Flavor
While cinnamon might seem like an unusual addition to meat, lamb in this case, it is actually a traditional way to flavor meat in middle eastern cuisine. Cinnamon was used historically to help preserve meats (it is full of antioxidants), and its strong flavor is a perfect match for the strong flavor of lamb.
Read about the fascinating history of cinnamon here, but know that today there are primarily two types of cinnamon widely available: Ceylon and cassia cinnamon. Ceylon cinnamon, the more expensive variety, and also the variety with more health benefits, is produced mostly in Sri Lanka, and has a milder sweet flavor good for baking and flavoring hot drinks. Cassia cinnamon is the cheaper version, the kind available in the grocery store, and primarily produced in Indonesia, having a stronger and smell and flavor.
A classic pairing for grilled and broiled meats is parsley and onion salad. The rich flavors of the lamb and cinnamon are also complemented nicely by this brightly flavored marinated carrot salad. Perfect for breakfast, lunch, dinner or a snack, these cinnamon-scented lamb patties are a cinch to make.
- 1-2 cloves garlic
- 1 pound ground lamb*
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper freshly ground
- 1 Tablespoon maple syrup (optional)
- olive oil for baking sheet
Finely mince garlic.
Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix with hands to combine well.
Lightly coat a baking sheet or a parchment lined baking sheet with olive oil. Cook lamb patties under broiler until cooked through and brown, about 4 minutes per side. Alternatively, they may be pan-fried in olive oil.
*Ground beef may also be used.
