Mayo Free Tuna Salad Recipe

Mayo Free Tuna Salad Recipe

This mayo free tuna salad recipe is one of my favorites for a quick lunch. Extra virgin olive oil, fresh lemon juice, crunchy celery, and a touch of scallions and fresh herbs are combined together for a simple, refreshing, satisfying, and nutritious meal.

Real Foods Pantry

Canned tuna from Wild Planet Foods, which I purchase at my local Costco store, is one of the staples in my real foods pantry. Wild Planet’s tuna is NOT packed in water or oil, so no draining necessary. It is 100% pole and line caught, and has a lower mercury content because of the smaller size of fish that they catch. It is rich in Omega-3 oils, and due to its superior flavor and quality, imperative for enjoying this recipe.

This mayo free tuna salad recipe is also a terrific way to use up odds and ends leftover in the fridge. Have a random scallion hanging around? Chop it up and toss it in. That floppy stick of celery? Perfect for this. Add in a few chopped gherkins or capers for a salty kick. You can totally switch up the fresh herbs up too; I used Italian parsley that I had on hand, but fresh basil, oregano, fennel tops, dill, and tarragon all will all be delicious in this recipe.

Serving Suggestions

Fresh farmer’s market veggies are a terrific accompaniment to this mayo free tuna salad. Just chop and drizzle with your “special” bottle of extra virgin olive oil and flaky sea salt. Alternatively, serve with your favorite crackers, or toss the tuna into a pita bread or between two slices of bread for a sandwich. The possibilities are endless and the satisfaction of a good lunch is guaranteed. It would also be a good match for this Green Vegetable Soup recipe.
